Abstract:
This is the digital form of the water mains record plans produced by the Water Supplies Department (WSD) covering the whole Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). It contains features such as pipe alignments, valves, fittings, water work installations and other miscellaneous apparatus for the fresh, salt and raw water system. Base land information is supplied by the Land Information Centre (LIC), Lands Department, HKSAR.

The purpose of this data set is for internal use of the Water Supplies Department to support the planning, operation and maintenance of the waterworks facilities. The data for the waterworks facilities can be provided to other government departments, utility undertakers and other parties that have genuine need of the data on request. Data for the base maps from LIC will not be released to any parties.

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

    Check plots are manually compared with the original paper as-built drawing. Connectivity check is performed by the system for digital as-built submissions.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

    The 1:1000 topographic base was compiled according to the specifications of the Lands Department. Data for water work facilities are compiled according to survey data and site measurements and therefore the accuracy of the data varies.

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

    No generalization was done on the water work facilities data. The data were checked manually by comparing check plots with the original as-built drawing records. Accuracy for the digitised data depends on the accuracy of the original as-built drawing record. Exact alignments of the water mains need to be verified on site. As some data were not available during digitisation, some of the attribute fields are yet to be filled.

    Edge-junction topology present. Legal connections between edges and junctions are defined. Edge-Edge rules indicate edge and junction subtypes are compatible with one another. Edge-junction rules control the cardinality of the connections between a pair of edge and junction subtypes.

Access_Constraints:
The digital data for the waterwork facilities are copyrighted by WSD. They are for internal use of the WSD only, but can be provided to other government departments, utility undertakers and other parties that have genuine need of the data on request. Data for the base map from LIC will not be released to any parties.

Copyright should be observed and the data cannot be released to other parties without the written agreement from WSD.
